LYRICS...

I get home from work, and I kick off my shoes.
Then I grab me a beer, and I flip on the news.
I sit on my sofa and watch CNN
Then I learn that another six boys died again.

I pick up the remote to put on somethin’ else.
But this time I can’t. And I think to myself.
This war makes no sense. Ain’t no doubt that it’s wrong.
And a man can only stay silent so long.

I think of our soldiers – those sons and those daughters.
We go ‘bout our lives, as they go to their slaughter.
I know there’s some good reasons why men go to war.
But you certain’ly don’t fight, when you don’t know what for.

I don’t got much voice, and I’m sure ain’t no star.
And no one ever said I’m too good at guitar.
I’ve never performed, or recorded a song.
But a man can only stay silent so long.

There's a time of the season when ice starts to thaw
And the harsh winter winds start a-leavin'.
There's a time when a man just can't take anymore
of the tears, and the death, and deceivin'.

They'll probably tag me for talking like this.
Somewhere in D.C. they'll put me on some list.
They'll group me with hippies, and liberals, and such.
But to tell you the truth, it don't bother me much.

'Cause a man's not a man if he don't speak what's true.
That's what I believe, and perhaps you do to.
Let's bring them kids home to where they belong!
A man can only stay silent so long.
